Allied Barton Security Officers at Harvard Receive Over $54,000 in Settlement of Arbitration Case
Hundreds of SEIU 615 members working for Allied Barton Security Services at Harvard are getting long overdue holiday pay. Soon after signing the first contract in July of 2007, members discovered that Allied was planning to stop the practice of paying them for holidays they weren’t scheduled to work. This violated the contract and marked a change from what Allied had done before the Union. Shop steward Angie Cavallaro fought back and filed a grievance demanding a restoration of these holidays on behalf of Allied Security Officers.
On the eve of the arbitration, Allied ap¬proached the Union and offered to settle the case and give the members the pay they are due. Despite Allied’s insistence on unnecessarily es¬calating disputes, the security officers and their Union stood strong and achieved another vic¬tory.
Our achievement here should remind us that all security officers need a union. Bargaining for downtown security officers is beginning soon and they will need all of our support in their struggle for a decent contract.
