Justice for Janitors: Northeastern Students Rally for Increased Standards!

Northeastern Students, through a group called the Progressive student alliance, have rallied around the contracted janitors working for Consolidated Services at the university. The students have called on the university to consider putting more resources towards their janitorial bid so that an addendum can be added to the already standing collective bargaining agreement. This would allow for increased wages and benefits, above what the contracted janitors already receive.
The Northeastern students formed a coalition of over thirty student groups on campus called the Justice for Janitors coalition. Throughout the spring, they collected hundreds of petitions, held forums and rallies to demonstrate the widespread support for workers. Their efforts culminated at the end of May with a three day camp out in the Boston Common across from the University President’s home that gained coverage from the Globe and the Herald.
The students have pledged to continue advocating for increased standards for the janitors at Northeastern when the school year returns in the fall.
