Security officers and community leaders gathered on November 12th at a candlelight vigil in front of the Westin Waterfront, where the BOMA Boston Toby & Industry Awards were being held, to honor leaders in the real estate industry. The officers, along with religious and community representatives, called on the industry leaders to work with the officers to eradicate poverty wage jobs and to provide officers with benefits.

9/11 Vigil

On September 11th, 11 security officers and 20 community allies gathered in downtown Boston to commemorate the lives of fellow security officers in New York who were killed during the attacks on the World Trade Center towers in September 11, 2001. The names of the officers killed during the worst terrorist attack on American soil in the country’s history were read aloud while prayers were offered in their memory.

Office Guards Push for Pact (reported by the Boston Herald)

After a two-year campaign, a major union has succeeded in recruiting hundreds of security guards working in downtown Boston towers and Cambridge office buildings.  Now the Service Employees International Union is preparing for a fall push to get its new members a contract to boost wages and improve working conditions.

SEIU Local 615 Organizes 1,150 Security Officers

SEIU Local 615 was recognized as the collective bargaining representatives of Securitas Officers, which completed the organizing of the three largest security companies: Northeast, Allied Barton, and Securitas.

Hundreds of SEIU 615 members working for Allied Barton Security Services at Harvard are getting long overdue holiday pay. Soon after signing the first contract in July of 2007, members discovered that Allied was planning to stop the practice of paying them for holidays they weren’t scheduled to work.

Security Officers Meet To Discuss Our Future

On February 16th officers from all three of the major Boston and Cambridge contractors came together to review what we have done so far and what are the next steps. Officers from all three companies have been participating with the signing of Union cards at a rapid pace. A review of the Unionization process clarified our need to reach super majorities of officers with cards in each of the three contractors before we submit the cards to a neutral third-party (an arbitrator) for review.

News Around the Country: Twin City Officers hold Historic One Day Strike

Prompted by the failure of security contractors to address affordable health insurance, security officers held a strike for the first time ever in the Twin Cities on Monday, February 25, on the three largest security contractors in the area.

How to participate?
A petition has to be submitted with 10 signatures of officers from your building if there are 20 or more officers working in that building. For buildings with less than 20 officers you only need 50% (signatures) of the total number of officers from your building.

Allied Barton Officers In Cambridge and Boston Become SEIU Local 615 Members!!!!
On February 29th, a neutral third-party (an arbitrator) reviewed all of the signed Union cards submitted by Allied Barton officers and certified that indeed a majority of Allied Barton officers want the Union. A strong majority of 60% was submitted by the Union thus demonstrating the strong and wide support for Unionization. A next step for the Campaign is to finish signing up the Northeast and Securitas officers.
